China, Beijing. A Chinese visitor carries his daughter on Tiananmen Square to view the floats used in China's 60th anniversary celebrations.
For the Beijing government, it has been the expression of China' s 'peaceful rise'. For the neighbouring countries a worrying display of muscles by the new regional bully. But for millions of ordinary citizen, the National Day parade on October First has been simply the occasion to look proudly at the fruit of the hard work they have been doing for three decades to bring their country out of poverty. One week after the parade, thousand of people were still roaming around in Tiananmen Square to celebrate their moment of pride.
