Beijing Urban Landscapes 1/Ambiguous NatureAdd to Lightbox Download
China, Beijing. A billboard with nature landscape used as construction-site fencing in the CBD (Central Business District) district. Blue skies, green meadows, peaceful lakes?these mendacious promises of an idyllic future appear on the construction-site fencing in Beijing, a metropolis that is growing bigger and bigger following the wave of urbanization in contemporary China, a process that has no equal in the human history both for its dimension and its pace. These billboards like fences are not only hiding an ugly sight. They are trying to deceive the public promising a life in harmony with a nature that is in fact being violated, wounded, destroyed by the chaotic urban development of the last decades. In their desperate search for a relation with nature, residents of the metropolis turn to fake trees and sometimes settle for a drawing on a bed sheet?.
