China's domestic tourism boomAdd to Lightbox Download
China, Beijing. Chinese tourists at Tiananmen Square..While the rest of the world looks at fast increasing number of Chinese tourists travelling abroad, in China itself the domestic tourism is experiencing a boom. According to the National Tourism Organization, the average annual number of Chinese domestic tourists has increased by 11,7% in 2010, reaching 21 million and generating a record revenue of one trillion yuan (10 billions euro). Although most of the domestic travelers are still on a rather low budget (the latest figures show that on average a domestic Chinese tourist is spending 535 yuan/58 euro) the numbers are impressive. With money in their pockets, freedom to travel, wearing matching baseball hats, Chinese tour groups are a common sight. They journey their country, and one of the not-to-be-missed destination is, of course the Capital, Beijing where Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Mao Zedong mausoleum are a must.
