The Internet Addiction Treatment Center in Daxing, a suburb of Beijing, is the oldest and the largest. Located on an army training base and led by Tao Ran, a military researcher, the clinic uses a mix of therapies: counseling, military discipline, drugs, hypnosis and mild electric shocks. The treatment costs about 10,000 yuan or 1,300 $ a month, about a year average salary in China.
