In Dafen village, a modern suburb of Shenzhen in southern China, 2000 artists churn out, on an industrial scale, millions of reproductions of famous oil paintings. Last year, the Dafen art factories exported paintings worth 28 million euro. An estimated 70 percent of the world copied oil paintings are produced here. "Do you like Renoir, Da Vinci, Van Gogh? No problem, we can paint it for you!". The most famous Impressionist compete for space with photo-realist portraits of blonde maidens, soccer heros, chinese leaders. China's nouveau-riche commission their portraits painted in classical style to hang in their villas. With this mix of kitsch and business Dafen earned for itself the title of Cultural Industry Model base..A dealer shows some of his artwork: Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, landscapes, roses and a 'photo-realistic' unidentified beauty..
